It’s an open secret that Microsoft seemed to be in a spot of bother concerning its positioning of AI capabilities vis-a-vis other major market players(Read OpenAI’s Chatgpt). However, with a recent slew of updates and its CEO Satya Nadella’s reference as “The Copilot Company“, Microsoft seems to be a strong contender towards garnering AI “capability-supremacy”. Microsoft has started updating its capabilities in Copilot, which includes several new enhancements and features in its recently announced revamp. The features are pretty similar to what was demonstrated earlier by OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o. Those point to realistic conversational capabilities and inferring visual information to what has been referred to as multimodal generative AI.
New features include Copilot Voice, Copilot Vision, Copilot Daily, Copilot Personalized Discover, and Think Deeper. Microsoft has also announced an early testing program called Copilot Labs where subscribers will get to test new features before launch. The update was rolled out on Windows, Bing Search and the Edge Web Browser on October 1.
Let us have a look at the upgraded features:
1 – Copilot Voice:
The Copilot voice capability has been updated to let the user have smoother and more natural conversations. It has been reported that the interactions have been completely indistinguishable from a human voice. Responses are faster and the chatbot can be interrupted and redirected to a separate conversation.
2 – Copilot Daily:
This is a daily personalized brief of news and weather from personalized sources like Reuters, Financial Times etc. Additional options like reminders and other personalizations and controls are expected to be rolled out for this feature in future.
3 – Copilot Vision:
This feature is under development and will be useful for desktop users. It is built natively into the Microsoft Edge Browser. This capability looks into whatever a user looks into a computer and can talk about it in real-time. It understands the web page that the user is viewing and answers queries about the content.
4 – Think Deeper:
This feature is endowed with advanced reasoning and is for those people who want help and seek support with complex matters. It can help solve complicated math problems and write “Advanced Coding”. This feature is in the development stage and available to a select group of paid subscribers in the Co-Pilots Labs program.
5 – Personalized Discover:
This particular feature helps the user access a handy guide to its useful features and conversation starters making curious first-time users’ lives easier. The suggestions can be based on the users’ earlier interactions with other Microsoft services like Bing and MSN or as well the chat history with AI.
