New Zealand faces South Africa in an epic clash today at the Dubai International Stadium after three weeks of high-octane cricketing action. We have all arrived to witness an encounter where the creme de la creme of women’s cricket will set the stage on fire. Both the finalists have toiled hard and have shown great patience and perseverance to reach the finals. We are assured of a new T20 World Cup Winner this time.
The defending champions, Australia, were knocked off, ending their 15-match undefeated streak in the ICC T20 World Cup finals. The gritty South African women’s team shocked the six-time champion side defeating them by eight wickets. The proteas drew first blood and avenged their defeat in their encounter with the Australians in the ICC T20 2023 World Cup edition to enter their second consecutive final. The New Zealand team, on the other hand, beat the 2016 champions West Indies by two wickets.
The South African team’s road to the final has its base in the strong preparation that followed the loss of the 2023 T20 World Cup Edition. They started their 2024 campaign with a dominant win over West Indies in their first match. They lost their second game to England and then went on to beat Scotland and Bangladesh. This helped them secure a spot for the Semi-Finals.
The New Zealand team started their journey with a convincing big win over India by 58 runs. However, they lost to Australia by 60 runs in their second game. Then, they went on to beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their last two group games to secure their semi-final spot.
