India and New Zealand are facing each other in the first test encounter of the ongoing Test Series where a total of three test matches will be played out. The ongoing test is being played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The 1st day of the test match was washed due to incessant rains. However, after the play commenced on Day 2, Indian batting was rattled by the Kiwi Pacers and they were bundled out for 46 runs. It is the third-lowest and lowest test score at home by an Indian team in a test inning. The star batsman Virat Kohli was out for a duck. Will O’Rourke and Matt Henry were the peak of the bowlers each scalping four and five wickets respectively.

New Zealand, batting second has taken a mammoth lead of 356 runs, scoring 402 runs in their first innings. Rachin Ravindra scored a century becoming the first batter to do so in India since 2012. Opener Devon Conway hammered 91 runs. Apart from the two, Tim Southee contributed with a vital 65 runs. Indian bowlers had to face a tough test at the hands of Kiwi batters. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja scalped three wickets each. Siraj picked up two, while Ashwin and Bumrah got one each. In the Indian second innings, as it progresses, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal look steady. India trail by 299 runs at Tea. For the first time in the match, they have spent more than an hour in the crease.
The on-field situation for India did not look good as wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant faced an injury. The wicket-keeper batsman missed a stumping opportunity and in the process injured his knee. Pant had to leave the field and take a break for the full day. BCCI has given an update that, Pant will not be keeping wickets for the full day on Day 3.
